Things between cocktail waitress Sookie and her vampire boyfriend Bill seem to be going excellently (apart from the small matter of him being undead) until he leaves town for a while. A long while. Bill's sinister boss Eric has an idea of where to find him, whisking her off to Jackson, Mississippi to mingle with the under-underworld at Club Dead. When she finally catches up with the errant vampire, he is in big trouble and caught in an act of serious betrayal. This raises serious doubts as to whether she should save him or start sharpening a few stakes of her own.

Club Dead starts off with Sookie coming from work to Bill's house and Sookie finding him working on something he wanted to keep a secret from her, this hurts Sookie and feeling neglected tells Bill she would leave him for a while as he finishes his work. Bill then tells her that's just fine because he has to leave for an uncertain period of time. Sookie then leaves with tears in her eyes. We find out Sookie has been having some money trouble and is hurt that Bill gave a fortune to the stuck up Bellefleurs because they are his great great descendants when he hasn't even been thoughtful enough to help Sookie with the needed repairs in her house.

Oh Bill, you don't deserve Sookie. The moment he saw Lorena he cheated on Sookie then out of guilt, because he was planning on leaving Sookie for good, he wanted to give her a pension. Even knowing of his betrayal, Sookie still went to look for him when he went missing. I felt for Sookie the entire time I was reading this book. She was bill's personal assistant during the day when he can't do his errands, her life is always in danger because of Bill, she now has a lot of scars on her body because of him too! And after all that, Bill neglected and betrayed her. I'm definitely not on Team Bill after Club Dead! Then at the end of the story he had the gall to say Sookie is "his". (Oh no he didn't!)

One of the things I like about Sookie is that even if she loves Bill a lot and she thinks the sex is awesome, I know she can move on. She's young and she's entitled to change her mind about Bill, specially after what he did. She's also honest with herself and she can still appreciate other men, like Eric and Alcide, she admits at different times that kissing them felt really good. One guy isn't the end of the world! Show him Sookie!

In Club Dead, we are introduced to another boyfriend candidate for Sookie - Alcide. What can I say about him? I liked Alcide..until a certain page (lol), he's a manly man with a rough, not handsome features but definitely with a lot of sex appeal thrown in. And things were going good between him and Sookie, until he decided to sleep with his psycho bitch of an ex again after having made a promise to Sookie! I was almost, almost signing up on his team!

Norse god Eric was really sweet at the end of the story, he sounds really promising and the next book is basically about him so I can't wait for that.

Club Dead is another delicious and satisfying installment in the Sookie Stackhouse mystery!

  1. I really love this series! the past two books haven't been as great as the earlier ones but it still has been a fun series to read and I have high hopes that the last book will end with a bang!

    1. Oh I hope the last book turns everything around as well! :)
